Bay View, Michigan

B
ay View is a northern Michigan religious resort community located in Bear Creek Township, Emmet County on Little Traverse Bay, three miles east of Petoskey on U.S. Highway 31 and just west of Petoskey State Park. The ZIP code is 49770.

The Bay View Association of the United Methodist Church was founded in 1875 to be a religious retreat. An educational program of lectures and music began in 1886 and the community developed around these activities. About this time, it became part of the Chautauqua movement.

Bay View is known for its Victorian style cottages and peaceful scenery. This small community consists of 30 community owned buildings, 440 cottages, 2 hotels and a post office. Also a beach (with a rather rocky swim area), a marina and sail house, a recreation house, tennis courts, and Boys and Girls Club programs.


Accomodations

Two historic inns in Bay View are the Stafford's Bay View Inn and The Terrace Inn Bed and Breakfast.

The Terrace Inn was built in 1911 and offers use of the private Bay View Beach, tennis courts and cross country ski trails.

The Bay View Inn was built in 1886 and offers a full complimentary breakfast and free use of the hotel's bikes. Also air conditioning, a business center and an Inn Library where guests can read magazines, books and enjoy coffee and tea.
